Funny coupon story!!!

My sis-in-law went to CVS for her free cans of soup with her 11 year old daughter to teach her how to shop smart. The total for her soup was 3 cents. She never carries cash and did not have 3 cents in her purse so she had her daughter run to the car, on her way to the car she found a dime on the floor in the store. She got back 7 cents and my sis in law said " see now lets go to the next store and see what we can get free with our 7 cents. They got in their car ready to pull away and a 12 year old boy knocked on the window and was giving my sis in law a 20 dollar bill. She was so confused and said what, why, and he said his mom wanted her to have this!!! (they were in line behind them) They obviously thought they were poor. We laughed our heads off!! I asked if she went to explain to the mom you are just trying to teach your kid how to shop smart and she said she was so embarressed she could not get out of there fast enough!

At the same time, it is nice

At the same time, it is nice to know that there are people out there willing to help someone who they think might be less fortunate :)

Too funny

Your story is too funny, but the more I save, and the more I get close to free, the more I can donate for those who truly can't afford to purchase these items. His $20 would have gone a long way in stocking pantry shelves!

Too Funny

Yes, this happened to me and no, I didn't take the 20 bucks. It was quite funny though. I was totally perplexed and had no idea why this young boy was offering me $20. My husband thinks I should go store to store and see how many people offer me money. We had a good laugh over it but you are right, it is sad to think that if you shop smart, you must be destitute.

How funny,

Your sis n law should take the 20 bucks and give it to the food pantry to help those in need. I love stories like this, I think it really shows us how society is thinking. If you can't pay full price then you are in the poor house. In reality we are smart shoppers trying to save money for other items....Thanks for sharing the story. It made me smile:)

:)

Too funny!

(and kinda sad) Isn't it a bit sad that people have the preconceived notion that if you are a smart shopper you must be poor?

True!

it IS sad...BUT this whole funny story got me thinking that JUST MAYBE the reason some people are reluctant to learn to super coupon is because they will be viewed in this way as they shop? I've had so many people say "I don't have time to / need to shop like that, but I'm glad that works for you...I know YOU need to shop like that because you have so many kids, etc...blahblah"

We are actually rich!

Jill has made it possible for us to have all kinds of luxuries for less money than we paid for mere neccesities before and we can share with others which really makes us feel blessed. A few weeks ago I apologized to the man behind me in line because the clerk didn't understand the coupons and was calling for the manager and taking lots of time. The man said, "That's OK. I've been there". I could tell from the look of sympathy on his face that he meant he had been broke. We just have to smile our secret smile and keep on fishing.

Follow up

I would have ask the man "Where have you've been?" or "By what do you mean?". Or better yet, you could have said, "So you use coupons like I do so you can travel around Europe? That's great!"

I figured that it made him feel good

to have offered sympathy to me and I'm all for people feeling good about themselves. I feel so good about myself every time a deal works. I know people who love to brag about how much they spent on something. I have always been proud of how little I have spent to get something I want.
