Happend two days back"
I placed a special order thru CS in the morning and picking up my 3cases of paper towels in the night from CS. I realized I forgot my coupons from sunday paper. I used from the blinkies and paid for 2 cases; I told the CS I come back in 10 mins and get the 3rd case. I live 2min from Jewel. she was very very nice and said that she will hold the case by the registry.
I went to car and loaded my 2 cases and realized my coupon were in the passenger seat and went right back to pickup the case and suddenly a Jewel guy came to me and took my cart away and yelled at me for taking to many and wouldn't let me buy the case and I asked to speak to the manager; talk to whoever you want and gave me the manager and the district mangers nmae. Since it was almost 10:30pm , I went home.
I went back the next day morning to asked for TOM, the store manager,
to my surprize, this guy is even more rude and said that he knows all abouyt what happened in the night and started yelling and said that I should leave the store, and I started to explain him that I was picking up my special order ( which my name was written on the CS desk with my handwriting, the date and #phone); but he wouldn't listen and said showed me the jewel paper last page bottem "store has right to restrict the orders..." and said that he wouldn't give my any towels and he gave me the district mangers name and said that I can speak to whoever I want and if I don't leave he will call cops. because I am on his private property. AND HE LEFT from the CS desk.
The CS lady, very nice lady told me that he likes to threaten but he will not call cops, but she said that its better for me to leave.
I come home and don't know what to do.
THIS NEVER HAPPENED TO ME IN MY LIFE, I ALWAYS SHOP THERE AND I HAVE SMALL BABIES AT HOME AND I AM SCARED.
PLEASE ANYONE HAVE ANY ADVICE FOR ME. I usually do a lot of charity, donation even before couponing, THANKS TO JILL I AM ABLE TO DO EVEN MORE, MY CHRUCH IS VERY HAPPY.
SO FAR SINCE THE DEAL STARTED I ONLY BOUGHT 2 CASES OF TOWELS, THATS ALL. I STILL NEED TO BUY ICE CREAM, KNORR, BROTH,....I AM SCARED TO GO TO THAT JEWEL, THATS 2MIN FROM MY HOME.
PLEASE ADVISE.
Let us know
how this goes as you escalate it.
I'm sure the limit quantities policy is meant for shoppers loading up the cart with everything on the shelf. It's not meant for a special order ready for pickup after the store finds it screwed up with its own ordering.
If your store was proactive instead of reactive they'd work with you much like Jill mentions her store works with her. sklata1 tells them days in advance paper towels are going to get cleared out. They order more before the avalanche hits instead of waiting until after their shelves are empty.
Getting with your church
First, take this up with corporate. Horrible performance by that store.
Second, do you have fellow shoppers in your church you can network with? Instead of you doing all the deals to stock them up, maybe do one deal for the church. Coordinate with your fellow church donators through e-mail so they can help you out. Such as letting them know to avoid this Jewel since you've already been there and for someone to check with another Jewel. That way less work for you, your church is hooked up and it's a group effort, not one super shopper filling the pantry.
Make the call
I would make the call to Corp. I can only imagine how you feel and I am so sorry. I am on the same page as everyone else, you did the right thing and did a special order just for you as to not clear off the shelves, there is no reason you should have been treated this way. I think I would feel the same way as you, I don't know that I would ever want to shop as that Jewel again, I know if anyone from my Jewel treated me that way I would be in shock, but I don't think that would ever happen because everyone at my Jewel is so wonderful. I would make the call and see where is gets you and then go back with your head held high right past that CS desk and don't feel bad about placing your next order with them either, just remeber you are paying for that product one way or another, whether it be cash or coupons, it's all the same!!
DES PLAINES JEWEL
Thank you so much for your advise. I really appreciate it. I will email them, there is a section on the site 'Contact US' , I will follow-up with a phone call Jewel CS 1-877-932-7948 (from Jewel Website).
Any other way to contact them, PLEASE LET ME KNOW.
Thank You all, GOD BLESS YOU ALL.
Good luck
and let us know what happens. Also, which DP Jewel? I go to the Elmhurst Rd/Dempster location fairly often, and they are usually very good.
Call the local office
I discovered the 877 number is to a calling service who really knows nothing about the store or the policy. I wish I had the number and contact person to give you. I had it and misplaced it. Sorry
I have a number
I am dealing with almost the same situation at my Jewel and the number they gave me to call was 630/948-6600. This number actually says it is for the Preferred Card Center but just hit '0' to get the operator and ask them to transfer you to someone else. The women that answer this phone number are incredibly nice and helpful. I was directed to a lady in special purchases department and also given my store's district managers name and number. I have several calls myself out to corporate to discuss how I have been treated. Good luck to you and I hope this helps.
I think the main number is
I think the main number is 630-948-6000
Completely Unacceptable
Until very recently I worked in the Service Desk at my local Jewel store and I can tell you that the way you were treated is completely unacceptable. The only time I have ever heard of a manager threatening to call the police on a customer was in the instance of a customer being verbally abusive to the other employees. I assure you that in Jewel Corporate's eyes, they do pretty much whatever it takes to make the customer happy.
I urge you to contact the corporate office. You should not have been treated like you were committing some kind of crime. Honestly, if you call and follow up with a written complaint, I wouldn't be surprised if they mail you a $25 gift card. I have seen them issued for much smaller offenses.
I would also continue shopping there. I can't believe "Tom" thought that he was going to get away with this.
Good luck!
Special Order
My first question would have been "Why they allowed you to order that quantity in the first place? " Whenever there is a larger order it is best to special order, which is what you did. If they were to limit you on a quantity the time to do that should have been at the time of the order at CS not at the time of purchase. What probably happened was the manager was tired of hearing complaints on how he is out of stock on a sale item (due to his inability to order correctly) and decided that he needed the product in his store. I would definitely call the district manager ASAP and explain to them the situation. Keep in mind he is counting on you not doing this. I would explain to the district manager that you understand that the store has the right to limit quantities but this should have been done at the time the order was placed, not picked up. Stand your ground with the treatment of the manager towards yourself, but tread lightly when dealing with the product. Remember we enter into these deals at our own risks.
DES PLAINES JEWEL
Since I have a baby at home and I am nursing;
I always special order; Same thing I did on paper towels.
I did not even go to the shelf. The CS lady gave me my order when I went; The CS lady was nice and even showed him my order paper (where my name and number was there )
I am not sure what wrong I did and not sure what the guy told the manager Tom, he as mad at me before I even able to tell him about the special order.
You ordered and purchased a
You ordered and purchased a lot. They do have the right to limit purchases if they choose.
ALWAYS remember, it is better not to overdue things and 'fly under the radar!!!!!"
Walgreens has also been known to limit a shopper.
Duh!
That's exactly what the special order is for...to order as much as you want. Not to fly under the radar. She wasn't shelf clearing, she was special ordering. AND, if the store wanted to limit her, they should have done that when she was placing the special order, not when she came to pick it up. We/You/Store Manager has no idea what she needs these paper towels for. Maybe she works for the animal shelter and is picking up a special order?!!!! You don't know! None of us know what is going on in the person next to us' life! She did the right thing by special ordering and cuddos to her!
shop there anyway
and don't let them bully you if there are no other Jewels you can go to. You did the right thing by special ordering. If they didn't want you to buy 3 cases, then why did customer service order it for you? Huh? That's what I would have asked them. It's not like you were denying any other customers quantity....you special ordered these. Shame on them. Hold your head high if you go back and don't let them think they got to you. If that's hard for you, then find another Jewel where they actually appreciate your business.
JEWEL HEADQUARTERS NUMBER?
Is there any specific number? person?
the only reason I am asking is because the next morning I went , I thought the manager would atleast listen what I have to say, but he also behaved badly. I met this manager 1st time. I shop there a lot and 95% of CS/Cashiers are very very nice and helpful and they know me and my kids.
And I did place a special order that morning and the CS lady has my name there along with phone number ; I wrote on the official card she gave me for special order.
Oh my gosh....
That's awful! I don't think there is ever a time that a paying customer should be made to feel like they are committing a crime. I would absolutely call Jewel headquarters and report what happened. There is no excuse for you to be verbally abused over the purchase of paper towels. I think what you are experiencing may be the backlash of customers completely buying out a store's supply, and unfortunately I think that manager's will be starting to limit quantities. You, however, should not feel bad, you did nothing wrong especially considering you ordered the paper towels specifically for yourself and didn't try to clear out their shelves.
Call Corporate not the DM
I am in Human Resources. I do not recommend calling the District Manager (DM). That person could very well be part of the problem. Think about it... the DM hired this Manager or was at least involved with the hiring. Call the corporate office and complain. Be sure to mention the fact that you were treated in such a hostile way and that you felt threatened. Additionally, it would not hurt to throw in there your concern that if he treats customers like this what must the employees be going through... he is creating a hostile work environment. Most likely the DM will be the one to contact you but he/she will be held accountable for resolving the complaint. Your complaint will be more visible and more likely to be resolved to your liking. Good Luck!!
